Adaptation: Searching for information on the Web was adapted to using Internet Explorer but we used the Cyber Sleuth game as an activity.
Using Technology to Enhance Learning was modified because of changes in the Blackboard website. It was also modified to include such sites as Quia.com and eboard.com
The Online Research Expedition was modified by creating a cooperative group activity where each group was given specific online instructions using eboard.com. Each group was instructed to go to the website, Marcopolo and complete an activity and interact with the virtual exhibits of the site. Each group then presented the major concepts of the assigned standard using PowerPoint connected to a Smartboard.

Adaptation: Participants created a classpage using Blackboard.com. Since Blackboard has changed it's format, all START materials had to be redone. Also, teachers were instructed in how to add and maintain students, upload documents, communicate via chat rooms and email, create an external hotlist for favorite science links, and link to other sites such as Quia.com to create online quizzes and link to science activities for the purpose of drill and practice or enrichment.

Adaptation: On the first day, participants were instructed in how to organize their browser and create a folder system to store images and text from the Internet. Basic PowerPoint was covered as well. After lunch, teachers participated in a webquest using Marcopolo as a resource.
On the second day, participants were introduced to the START Materials for Searching the Web and Evaluating Web Resources. After selecting several good sites that matched the challenge questions on the CyberSleuth cards, the teachers went to Filamentality.com and constructed a hotlist, a Treasure Hunt, and a WebQuest. The links to all of these activities were organized onto an online bulletin board called eboard.com.

Online activities, quizzes, hotlists, treasure hunts, and a webquest were created on Quia.com and Filamentality.com. Organization of urls of created curricula was accomplished via eboard.com and blackboard.com.
Participants copied favorites folder to floppy and took it with them back to their schools.

Adaptation: Participants reviewed both science software and Internet sites and presented their findings to the class. They received the START handout: CyberScience Sleuth: Evaluation Form to assist in website evaluation. Along with the handout, they received handouts prepared by the instructor on Class Preparation and Classroom Management Tips; Determining Your Science Diet (developing curriculum); and a list of annotated science websites. MarcoPolo and Alabama Virtual Library were visited on the Web.
