Adaptation:
I created four challenge cards for the grade levels I teach. I obtained the National/State standards for the discipline and identified a challenge for each, ensuring that they were all connecting. I searched for web sites that might be useful in teaching the standard referenced in the challenge.

Adaptation:
These modules were adapted to fit the objectives of this institute, most notedly, to integrate technology into quality mathematics instruction to deliver rigorous content. Particpants used the skills learned from these modules to create a web page or PowerPoint presentation to teach some topic in middle school mathematics aligned to the SC Mathematics Curriculum Standards. Sample projects are available.

Adaptation:
The team trained high school teachers on "Searching for Information on the Web" using the PowerPoint presentation, the lecturette and the learning cards. All the teachers used laptops. As they went through the learning cards, the team members/trainers walked around and monitored the group. Many positive responses were received, including, "this was the best workshop I've ever done!"

Joe Kinney plans to conduct staff development workshops in technology with Teacher Specialists in the district.

Creating a Professional Portfolio Using PowerPoint

Adaptation:
The teachers were trained using a lecturette with the PowerPoint presentation and the "Creating a Professional Portfolio Using PowerPoint" learning cards. They were encouraged to use PowerPoint to develop a presentation for a lesson they would like to teach. Two days following the workshop one teacher used his PowerPoint lesson with his 6th grade social studies classes for the first time.

Adaptation:
From information given me by my professor, I created four challenge cards. The purpose of these cards was to enlighten other teachers on how they could use technology in the classroom to facilitate learning. For example one challenge card read: Find a web site that will help students develop a meaningful concept of integers. My web sites used for this card were: Mathgoodies.com, Mathleague.com, Mathgarden.tripod.com, and Factmonster.com. I then presented this information to my colleagues, and urged them to further incorporate technology to enhance student learning in the classroom.

Teachers participating in the module enjoyed the webct.com and blackborad.com sites. The resources provided through this program initiated much thought concerning options for student learning. Preparing a course site will provide an exciting opportunity for the participants.

Adaptation:
I used the module to research solids and Platonic solids on the web. The students were given Web cards with four options to search. The teachers had not seen research on a content topic done with the web and were excited to use it in the future with their classes.
The students were able to find a large variety of dynamic sites and were interactive throughout the entire lesson. They liked the use of technology to research their content topics as the sites were colorful, and visually stimulating.
The use of web cards (challenge cards) kept them focused on their tasks.

Training Site:
The Computer Lab at Timmonsville High School was the instructional site used for the training of Enhancing Learning with Technology.

Audience:
This technology workshop centered around instuction for high school teachers. The program introduced the audience to WebCT and Blackboard.com. Participants were encouraged to create a course as well as visit couse sites.

Modules:
Using Technology to Enhance Learning

Adaptation:
The training team composed a booklet that explained the WebCT site and lead participants through a step by step procedures in viewing courses offered in the site. A tour of the miamisci.org was introduced and professional organizations and support sites were visited. The second activity introduced participants to the Blackboard site where teachers created their own courses.
