Abstract:
|
The
Miami-Dade County Division of Mathematics and Science trainers of the
START program have produced several START presentations and trained k-12
classroom teachers as well as 32 Mathematics and Science Educational
Specialists. These teachers, as well the Educational Specialists, have
impacted over 300 schools throughout Dade County. The modules most
frequently used for trainings have been: Searching for Information on
the Web, Creating a Professional Portfolio, Using PowerPoint, and OLE
Online Research Expedition. Teachers, as well as the Educational
Specialists, have agreed that these lessons produce the collaboration,
teamwork, and critical thinking among the participants that greatly
enhances the learning process. On-going training for teachers as well as
the District team of Educational Specialists is planned for Spring 2002.

Abstract:
|
Web-based
courses are becoming prominent elements in some Teacher Education
Programs. These online offerings provide a natural setting
for the infusion of START Modules, (particularly those which deal
directly with internet searches and evaluation of websites), since these
important experiences and skills apply to any contemporary
coursework. Students who are already networked by virtue of their online
course participation can work both individually and cooperatively on
these objectives, developing skills in two concurrent curricula:
technology and course content.
