On Friday afternoon,
about half of the START conference participants, plus a
few family members, enjoyed a fascinating tour of the
Museum Support Center. Located in Suitland, Maryland,
this is the Smithsonian's state-of-the-art storage
facility, where the National Museum of Natural History
keeps the majority of its collections. The Department of
Anthropology has nearly three million objects, and tour
participants were able to see a sampling of these
extraordinary objects from throughout time and the world.
