Identifying and Evaluating Science Resources on the Web

Participants will learn to train others to:

  • navigate the World Wide Web while using effective search strategies to identify science resources.
  • evaluate Web sites that are valuable in addressing National Science Education Standards.
  • post information on the START Exchange.
  • create a homepage on the World Wide Web.


Day 1 Training Modules:

Searching for Information on the Web

Module Goals:

  • To provide an overview of the Internet.
  • To gain an understanding of the online research process.
  • To practice the skills necessary to effectively conduct online research.
  • To survey the online resources available for research.

Evaluating Web Resources

New Evaluating Web Resources Module Materials (Math)

Module Goals:

  • To become familiar with the elements used to evaluate Web sites.
  • To identify and evaluate Web resources that support the National Science Education Standards.
  • To post a Web resource to the START Exchange.

Creating a Web Page Using Netscape Composer

Module Goals:

  • To create and publish a Web page using Netscape Composer.
  • To become aware of various Web publishing issues and concerns.
